Covid difficulties overcome with ATR72 aircraft

Avtrac secured the contract with leasing company Avation PLC for CAMO services, but four of the nine ATR72 aircraft were located in Melbourne Australia. This presented Avtrac with a difficult scenario with Covid restrictions in the state of Victoria. No CASA approved CAR30/145 Maintenance Organisations with ATR72 license coverage were available.

With their nationwide reach of contacts, Avtrac put together a team of ATR72 LAME’s on the ground in Melbourne, and had them inducted into Hawker Pacific Bankstown CAR30 organisation to get coverage. The team performed preservation checks and return to service inspections for Special Flight Permit with assistance from Aviat and Melbourne Jet Base for GSE support.

The four ATR72 aircraft all flew to Mareeba, Queensland and placed in Short Term Storage, ready for C Checks through Hawker Pacific Cairns.

“It was a very frustrating time for us and Avation, but with a great team of ex Virgin LAME’s we got the job done” said Avtrac MD Paul Carey.
